Dementia-Friendly Activities

We are committed to ensuring our daily activities are inclusive of all our residents' abilities, strengths and preferences. We hold activities tailored towards adults who are living in early-mid stages of dementia, as well as those in advanced stages of dementia. This ranges from ball games and matching puzzles to sensory books, memorabilia, storytelling and much more.

Activities are also generally tailored to individual preferences. At Herewards House, our residents particularly enjoy colouring, bingo and cooking/baking activities!

Feedback
We highly value the feedback from residents. Monthly resident meetings are held, where residents are given the opportunity to offer suggestions of new activities, and any other resources they may want. Following a new activity, residents are encouraged to provide feedback so that we can monitor their preferences of activities.

What makes us different?

We ensure our activities cover the following 6 categories, provide a range of benefits, and are specific to the season of the year we are in.

SOCIAL
We watch films together and hold social events year-round, such as the residents summer party & BBQs. The benefits of this is to improve companionship, stimulate memories and provide a sense of togetherness.

PHYSICAL
We have a large garden with a walking trail, encouraging residents to take walks in. Trips to the garden centre & gardening, as well as weekly chair yoga. The benefits of this is to promote strength, movement and wellbeing.

INTELLECTUAL
We have a range of games e.g. board games, card games, dominoes and bingo to stimulate the mind. There is also the choice of matching shapes/colour activities. Recently, we tried tie-dying & easter basket making as new fine motor activities which aim to provide a sense of accomplishment.

CULTURAL
Every important holiday is celebrated greatly to keep up tradition and culture, and education about new cultures. This includes, Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Trooping of Colour, Festival of Lights, Festival of Colours and more!

EMOTIONAL & SPIRITUAL
These activities are based on spreading kindness, stimulating the mind, senses and memories. For example, aromatherapy, storytelling, sensory books and relaxing, nostalgic music. We have a library service who deliver new books every month.
